Provide in-service training and education for staff regarding life-threatening allergies, allergen avoidance and prevention, recognizing symptoms of anaphylaxis, risk reduction procedures and emergency procedures including demonstration on how to use the Epi-pen Meet with the student and parent prior to entry into school/before the start of each school year to develop a current and complete Individual Health Plan (IHP) in coordination with the Licensed Health Care Professional (LHCP) Provide training for all staff that will be involved in the care of the student during any school sponsored activity supervision and monitoring and drills/practices Communicate and review with district nutrition services, the meals program. Jointly develop a communication process for students receiving school meals Periodically review care plan/med orders Communicate with local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) about students with life-threatening allergies Ensure medications are accessible and non-expired including the medication needed for lockdown, evacuation, or catastrophic event Communicate with the student, staff, and parents as needed Participate in planning for the student’s re-entry to school after an anaphylactic reaction |
