EBAT
no-cut athletic middle school athletic program
Guiding Philosophy
Athletic programs in the Sumner School District emphasize building positive character and citizenship. Student participants tend to transfer these character traits to other areas of their lives, including the classroom, and typically perform better academically when compared to their non-athlete classmates. By their nature, athletic programs in the Sumner School District are positive influences on the lives of our
students.
In keeping with the philosophy of the athletic program and the middle schools in the
Sumner School District, athletic opportunities should be provided for the maximum
number of students.
Components of the program
All middle school sports currently offered within the Plateau Middle School League structure will be EBAT beginning in the 2009-09 school year, no-cut sports in
the Sumner School District. These include the following:
- Boys Track
- Girls Track
- Baseball
- Fastpitch
- Girls Basketball
- Wrestling
- Boys Basketball
- Girls Soccer
- Volleyball
- Football
Adequate coaching staff for varsity teams, and sport specific staffing/formatting plans will address the “EBAT” component of the junior varsity/intramural teams. We will continue to offer a limited program in Gymnastics and Co-ed Tennis, serving 7thand 8th grade students with limitations set by facility issues and staffing. Gymnastics, currently offered during the third season, would be moved to the Fall season where there are no programs using gyms, and there are more opportunities to acquire qualified coaches. |
