Athletic Eligibility and In-District Transfers
Students in the Sumner School District are eligible for any level of competition at the high school where they attend if they meet the following requirements:
- They have been continuously enrolled at the high school since the beginning of their 9th grade year
- They currently meet the Sumner School District Extra-Curricular Academic Requirement – passing all classes and achieving a 2.0 GPA
- If they have transferred high schools within the Sumner School District after they enrolled and attended another school, they must meet one of the following requirements:
- Students whose transfer is based on a change of residence, due to a relocation of and with the entire family unit to a different residence, and preceded by termination of all occupancy of their previous residence, meet the requirement for athletic eligibility at the varsity level
- Student attended the transfer high school for one calendar year (during which time they are eligible, if they meet all other requirements, for sub-varsity competition)
- Student whose parent(s) or legal guardian(s) reside in different abodes as the result of a divorce or court appointed separation are allowed one (1) transfer between parents or guardians after entering the ninth grade
- Student was granted an appeal, based on hardship, by the Sumner School District, In-District, Athletic Transfer hearing committee
- Were granted eligibility, as per WIAA rules, by the SSD athletic director
- They currently meet all other Sumner School District eligibility requirements (see the SSD Eligibility Packet)
- They currently meet all WIAA eligibility requirements (including those listed in the SSD Eligibility Packet)
