Kindergarten Registration – Going on now
The Sumner School District offers full-time and part-time kindergarten classes. Part-time students attend school all day on Mondays, Tuesdays and alternating Wednesdays (red kindergarten) OR all day on Thursdays, Fridays and alternating Wednesdays (blue kindergarten).
Some elementary schools offer a tuition-based, full-time program on a space available basis. Full-time kindergarten students attend school every day and have the same school calendar as students in grades 1-5. Students enrolled in full-time kindergarten receive extra instruction time to learn basic skills for first grade.
Full-time Kindergarten
Registration Deposit (applied to June tuition): $100
Full Pay Monthly Tuition: $325
All children enrolling for kindergarten for the coming school year must be five years old by August 31, prior to the start of school. When registering a child for school, families should bring:

Highly Capable Program
2012-2013 Nominations

Students identified as highly capable in grades 3-5 are served in a self-contained “all day” program housed at Daffodil Valley Elementary. At the Middle school level, students attend Lakeridge Middle School and their program includes social studies, language arts, math and science.

When to keep your child home…. A message from the Health Room
Deciding when a child is too sick to go to school can be a difficult decision for parents to make. When trying to decide, use the guidelines below to help you.
Go to School: If your child has any of the following, they should probably go to school:
- Sniffles, a runny nose and a mild cough without a fever (this could be an allergic response to dust, pollen or seasonal changes.)
- Vague complaints of aches, pains or fatigue.
Stay at Home: If your child has any of the following symptoms, please keep your child at home:
- Chicken Pox: Children must stay home until all pox are scabbed over. Call the school to report that your child is out with this illness.
- Cough: Do not send a child to school with a nagging or deep cough.
- Diarrhea: Any unexplained water stools, especially if the child acts or looks ill. Your child must stay home for at least 24 hours after last watery stool.
- Ear Pain: Consult with your doctor. Untreated ear infections can cause permanent hearing loss.
- Eyes: Thick mucous or pus draining from the eye or pink eye. With pink eye you may see a white or yellow discharge, matted eyelids after sleep, eye pain and/or redness. Call the school if your child has pink eye.
- Fever: The best way to check for a fever is with a thermometer. No child with a temperature over 100 degrees should be sent to school and should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.
- Lice: Head lice must be treated with a pediculocide and ALL nits removed before the child can return to school. Call the school if your child has lice.
- Scabies: Students may return to school 24 hours after treatment has begun. Call the school if your child has scabies.
- Spots/Rash: Do not send a child with spots or rash to school until your doctor has said that it is safe to do so. Children with communicable diseases such as scabies, pinkeye, impetigo, ringworm or strep throat can return to school when on antibiotic or appropriated medication for 24 hours or a note from your doctor stating your child is no longer contagious. Call the school if your child has any of these conditions.
- Sore Throat: If your child has a sore throat and white spots can be seen in the back of the throat or a fever is present, keep your child at home and call your doctor. With strep throat your child may return to school after 24 hours of antibiotics and call the school.
- Vomiting: Vomiting two or more times in a 24 hour period or if other symptoms are present. Your child must stay home until symptom free or at least 24 hours after last time vomiting.
Please feel free to contact Judy in the health room at 253-891-4708 or the district health services department at 253-891-6051 if you have any questions.
