Parent Conferences
Thank you for participating in our McAlder Parent / Teacher conferences. Even though we have had late starts for these conferences, many teachers would like additional time to meet with you. Teachers have been asked to complete conferences by December 1. Your input is highly valued and appreciated as we plan instructional opportunities for your children. If at any time throughout the school year you have questions please do not hesitate to ask your child’s teacher. Teacher e-mails are available on the McAlder Web site.
McAlder Artists
Thank you to all of our Art Docents. Docents have been busy with students as they use pastels, paints, paper, clay, and other materials! It’s great to see our students’ artwork displayed throughout the McAlder hallways. Students are proud of their work. Student artwork can now been seen in the front office as well. Come in and view the creative work of our Mustangs!
RACE Guidelines Recognition
McAlder students will be honored each month for their participation in following our RACE guidelines. Ms. Black will be visiting each classroom at the end of each month to recognize students who have been identified by their teacher for being RESPECTFUL, ACCOUNTABLE, COOPERATIVE, EAGER TO LEARN, AND SAFE. Watch for our RACE Guideline Picture Wall outside of the cafeteria to see the many students being recognized!
Pierce County Library
Clever “Anansi the Spider” performs trickster tales at the hands of puppeteer Clay Martin. This performance will be at the Sumner Pierce County Library located at 1116 Fryar Ave. in Sumner on Saturday, November 14th at 11:30 am for children 5 years and older. For more information please call the Sumner Library at 253-863-0441.
Emergency Preparedness at School
The Sumner School District works in partnership with local law enforcement, public safety and county emergency management to prepare for emergency conditions in our schools. Each school has developed a comprehensive plan for responding to a variety of natural disasters and hazardous situations including earthquake, lahar, fire, bomb
threat, and hazardous materials incidents. Our system for managing school emergency situations provides students, staff and parents with a plan and a sense of security. Student safety is our focus and guides our decisions. Staff members have been assigned specific tasks they are responsible for during an emergency situation. Exhibiting leadership during a school evacuation and providing first aid are as important as communicating information to parents and organizing student relocation centers.
Communications tips for families during an emergency:
- Please be assured – we will communicate with you as quickly as possible.
- Be patient – your child’s safety is our first priority!
- Please don’t call the school; it jams the phone lines.
- Check the Web site or call the Emergency Hotline (253) 891.6001 for updates.
How families can help during an emergency
- Take care not to become part of the problem by rushing to the school. More traffic just makes it difficult for emergency response teams.
- Keep emergency cards up-to-date with correct phone numbers and names of people authorized to pick up your children.
- All adults who are picking up children should remember to always bring photo identification.
