Wash Your Hands
Please help us keep our students healthy by reviewing these guidelines with your child. Teachers have talked to students about the importance of washing hands thoroughly with soap for twenty seconds. Let your child know this is critical to their health. Please reinforce the importance of these guidelines and consider adopting them at home. It’s a good idea to have children wash their hands as soon as they get home each day as well.

  • Wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds before eating and when they are dirty.
  • Cough into your inside elbow, not your hands.
  • Sneeze into your inside elbow, not your hands.
  • Above all, do not put your fingers in your eyes, nose or mouth.

Please keep your children home if they are vomiting or if they have a temperature of 100 degrees or higher. Children should not return to school until they have been without a fever for 24 hours. We appreciate your assistance in keeping our students healthy!

News from Mrs. McDonald, Librarian
Maple Lawn readers send cart loads of thanks to the kind folks at A GOOD BOOK, our local Sumner downtown bookstore. On a chilly October morning many boxes arrived in our library full of books to distribute to classrooms and our library. So from all of us to all of you at the bookstore, we send our thanks for such a wonderful community partnership.

Highly Capable Program Nominations
Each school year, Sumner School District accepts nominations of students in grades 2-7 whose educational needs might be best served by Sumner’s Highly Capable Program. Sumner serves students identified as highly capable in grades 3-5 in a self-contained “all day” program housed at Daffodil Valley Elementary. Middle school students attend Lakeridge or Sumner Middle School. For the 2010-2011 school year, students in grades 6 and 7 will attend Lakeridge Middle School. Students in grade 8 will attend Sumner Middle School. The middle school Highly Capable Program includes social studies, language arts, math and science.
