News from Mrs. McDonald, Librarian
Maple Lawn readers send cart loads of thanks to the kind folks at A GOOD BOOK, our local Sumner downtown bookstore. On a chilly October morning many boxes arrived in our library full of books to distribute to classrooms and our library. So from all of us to all of you at the bookstore, we send our thanks for such a wonderful community partnership.
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Husky Families:
What a great October we’ve had! Routines are firmly established, conferences are happening, and students are working hard every day toward their learning targets! I want to encourage our families to continue to be active in their child’s education. If you ever have questions about your child’s learning, don’t hesitate to contact his or her teacher.
Maple Lawn students and families came out in full force for our PTA Harvest Festival. Judging by the smiles and feedback, a spooktacular time was had by all. A big thank you goes to our PTA for a well-organized and crowd-pleasing event.
Next week we are kicking off our Books and Beyond reading program. Thanks for encouraging your Husky to participate. This year’s theme revolves around the Seven Seas. We appreciate our families and PTA volunteers for supporting our students’ reading efforts outside of school.
Maple Lawn, as many of you know, is slated for a major renovation over the next two years. Our Education Specifications Committee (Ed Specs) began in mid-October. The following people are on the committee: Susan Allsop, Billie Jo Bandy, Kris Beeler, Mark Baumgarten, Donna Hardtke, Brad Huse, Laurie Josephson, Mike McCartin, Rae McDonald and Craig Spencer. Parents serving on this committee are Taryn Capps, Lana Hoover, Julie Moltke, and Michelle Windish. We are all exciited by the magnitude and potential of modernizing our beloved school. Feel free to contact any committee member for updates or to give input. This will be a three-year process to complete. Next year, we’ll be housing Sumner Middle School sixth graders as SMS completes their construction project. The sixth grades will be using our portables. In 2011-12 construction will begin at Maple Lawn. We’ll keep you informed along the way.
Mike McCartin, Principal
