- The current school calendar includes 2 days for weather make-up in May
May 25 and May 29, 2012, are now SCHOOL DAYs for all students K-12.
- Two additional make-up days have been added to the last week of school
June 20 and June 21, 2012, are also SCHOOL DAYs for all students K-12. (June 21 is a half-day early dismissal for the last day of school.)
Kindergarten Registration Information
The Sumner School District offers full-time and part-time kindergarten classes. Part-time students attend school all day on Mondays, Tuesdays and alternating Wednesdays (red kindergarten) OR all day on Thursdays, Fridays and alternating Wednesdays (blue kindergarten).
Some elementary schools offer a tuition-based, full-time program on a space available basis. Full-time kindergarten students attend school every day and have the same school calendar as students in grades 1-5. Students enrolled in full-time kindergarten receive extra instruction time to learn basic skills for first grade.
Full-time Kindergarten Rates
Registration Deposit (applied to June tuition): $100
Full Pay Monthly Tuition: $325
All children enrolling for kindergarten for the coming school year must be five years old by August 31, prior to the start of school. When registering a child for school, families should bring:
- Proof of child’s birth date (birth or hospital certificate, passport);
- Immunization information and child’s health history; and
- Names and phone numbers of parents, physician, and an emergency contact.
Families should contact their neighborhood school for registration information, or download a packet from the District Web site. Completed registration forms should be returned to the neighborhood school.

From the Principal's Desk
Dear Husky Families:
The excitement of our new school grows every day! Construction timelines are being met, furniture is being purchased and landscaping will be happening before we know it! Our staff is working very hard to predict, plan, and organize for our new facility. We’re using this move as an opportunity to review everything about Maple Lawn Elementary. We are rethinking rules, talking about new procedures and reinventing ourselves as a school! One such change we are working on is our morning routine, Next year the entire school will meet each morning in our new multi-purpose room. This will be a great way for us to start the day next year. We’ll use the time for announcements and to help our students develop a strong sense of Husky Pride! As next year approaches we’ll be in touch about other changes we are planning.
We have begun MSP testing! Thanks in advance for having your child here, on time, well rested, and ready to go on testing days. We try to emphasis a simple ‘do your best’ attitude to kids. They have worked hard all year to meet learning expectations and we’re proud of their efforts.
It’s difficult to believe that May is here. We are in the home stretch of a very unusual year. As I reflect on this year in a different building, I am so impressed with our entire staff and student body and their flexibility on less important matters while maintaining high standards for our students and their growth and learning. We’ve all learned a great deal this year!
