Dear Husky Families:
As we head into the end of the school year, I’d like to say ‘thank you’ to the wonderful families we serve at Maple Lawn. Our students gain so much from the support of our families and friends who volunteer at our school. While the list of people is too long to mention, I would like to publicly thank Mrs. Six, who visits our students frequently to help with reading and math; Mr. Shrup, who takes care of our reader board and is always helping a Husky or two; and Mr. Morgan, a retired Boeing engineer who has helped students discover how much fun math can be – not to mention his astounding collection of rocks. Our student’s school experience is so much richer for the volunteer efforts of our PTA and community!
I would also like to announce upcoming changes to the staff at MLE. Next year we will no longer have the talents of Mr. Graham, Mrs. Mosby, or Mr. Lamb. Next year, Mr. Graham will become the school psychologist at both McAlder and Emerald Hills. Mrs. Mosby will be teaching 4th grade at Crestwood. Mr. Lamb will become a full-time dad to his new son! All of these people have contributed mightily to the Maple Lawn Huskies. They will be missed.
Other changes next year include Mrs. Weber switching from kindergarten to 4th grade. Mrs. Kay Thomsen will return to Maple Lawn from Sumner Middle School. She proves the adage: Once a Husky, always a Husky. Mrs. Thomson will be our school psychologist and counselor. Mrs. Jennifer Lundh will be joining us from Emerald Hills to teach two sessions of kindergarten. We are excited to get to know our new colleagues!
Finally, it has been a privilege and honor to watch the miracle of our students’ growth this year. We are all fortunate to be a part of their daily learning. I want to wish everyone a safe summer full of friends, family, and adventure. Don’t forget to visit the library and practice your math facts on rainy days!
Happy Summer,
Mike McCartin, Principal
