Volunteers
Thank you so much to those who can find time to help out at school. We will be contacting parents who completed a volunteer form as soon as that information has been compiled. We have two primary needs right now.

1) Listen to students read for thirty minutes a day. We need parents who can assist for 30 minutes Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday by listening to children read. Some children are working to identify letters and others are reading but need one-on-one time to practice. If you can help with this program, please send an e-mail or note to your child’s teacher or to the office.

2) Parents to supervise activities at recess. We have guidelines set up for kickball and soccer and just need parents who can help facilitate games. If you would like to monitor another activity during one of our recesses we would welcome your involvement.

Parking Lot Safety
You will notice we have cones out to remind parents not to park in the yellow zones. The white zone is for pick up/drop-off only. No vehicles should park in the turn-around area at the entrance. If you bring your child to school in the morning, please pull out as soon as your child is on the sidewalk. Waiting to see your child walk into the building creates a back up that has extended all the way to 120th. If you want to watch your child enter the building, please pull in to a parking stall.
Please review the procedures in this newsletter to increase the safety of our children.

New Playground Equipment
We have ordered three new pieces of equipment for the playground. The Super Nova, a seven-foot diameter, slanting ring set in motion by student strength, will arrive in mid-December. It will be installed over Winter Break near the Big Toy by the swings. The two sets of turning bars will arrive in January. The “Little Toy” near the play shed will not be moved.
Thank you to everyone who helped raise money for this project during the Walk-a-thon.

Fright Night
What a great turn out for Fright Night! Families enjoyed the cake walk, games, pizza, and the clown show. The evening was a huge success. Thank you to the many parents who helped organize and volunteer during this family event. The Book Fair at Fright Night was also well attended.

Reading- You can help
Reading is a fundamental skill all students need to be successful at school and in life. You can help in two ways:
1. Read with your child each day. It takes practice to improve any skill. Making sure your child reads each day is critical to their continued growth. Make this a fun positive time. Patiently encourage children as they decode new words. Ask your child to tell you what happened to keep them focused on the meaning. Practice sight words if recommended by the teacher, and use the strategies shared during conferences. Visit the library together!

2. Some of our children would greatly benefit from reading to an adult for a few minutes each day at school. Send a note or call the office with your name, your child’s name, the day and times you are available, and we will set it up. We love grandparent volunteers!

We are very thankful for the opportunity to work with your children. Enjoy November and have a great Thanksgiving!
