Superintendent Craig Spencer’s Message
State assessments are one way that our kids can show what they know. Using the Measurement of Student Progress, High School Proficiency Exams and End-of-Course Exams, progress towards standards will be measured for students in grades 3-12. Using results of these assessments along with graduation data, our schools now have a snapshot of student proficiency in language arts, math, and science through the Washington Achievement Index.
The index presents a clear picture of how schools perform in five key outcomes, improvement over time, comparison to schools of similar demographics, and progress toward closing achievement gaps. Because the new achievement index is easier to understand than the federal No Child Left Behind Act’s calculations for Adequate Yearly Progress, this new way of looking at student achievement and school performance data is now available on our Web site along with more information about the index. We are proud of the academic progress our students are making and the effort of staff to ensure success for all students.
Finish Strong
Encourage your child to "finish strong" as this year of academic challenges comes to an end. Your child will be prepared to "begin strong" in September 2012. And remind your child, this quarter’s grades will determine athletic eligibility in September.

Hold the Balloons…Send Flowers
Parents often times desire to have balloons delivered to their child to celebrate a successful year. The balloons can create problems with our security system and/or typically end up being popped. Balloons will remain in the Front Office. A successful choice would be to send a small little (hint…small, little) bunch of flowers. Your student can carry them and think kind thoughts of you all day long. The flowers will not fly away or be popped.
Grade 8 End of the Year Information
Your child was provided with a letter providing the details to the end of the school year last week. A traditional highlight is the all district 8th grade celebration trip to Bullwinkle’s Family Fun Center. Our friendly PTO once again will be sponsoring our students. They want to make certain that every 8th grader is able to join in the celebration regardless of financial ability. Copies of the letter are available in the Front Office.
From the Library – Overdue Books
Please remind your student to return any overdue books to our library. Overdue notices are available on Family Access. Students moving to the high school will need to pay their fines.
