Percussion Class is a one-semester course for interested 8th grade students.
This is a non-band class that will explore music by learning basic percussion skills as well as music theory skills. Depending upon the development of the class as a whole, we may prepare a group performance for the student body near the end of the semester.
In Percussion Class, students will learn to read music as well as do basic music composition. Music history and musical styles will be explored. Playing skills will be grounded in snare drum rudiments. In addition, we will learn basic techniques on a variety of percussion instruments. Group playing will be stressed in the second half of the semester.
Grading for the class uses a point system. 50% of grade points are earned by Participation. This includes: attendance (being in class & on time), acceptable behavior & effort. 50% grade points are earned by Progress. This includes any assignments, written quizzes and playing quizzes.
Required for class each day:
- 1 pair of snare drum sticks (can be purchased at LMS office for $5.00)
- pencil
- set of handouts (exercises, songs & worksheets)
Excellent behavior will be expected of all students while in Percussion Class. Use your manners and be respectful to others. Mr. Osborn’s classes use the Lakeridge Middle School Discipline policy as outlined in the Hawk Planner. Any disrespectful, defiant or improper behavior will be dealt with immediately and in an appropriate manner. Courtesy, cooperation and common sense will help to make your Percussion experience safe, successful and fun. |
