| Jazz Band is an honors club that performs at several events throughout the school year. We explore and learn a variety of big band music styles, including: swing, Latin, ballads, blues and fusion, as well as improvisation.
Instrumentation includes: alto saxophones, tenor saxophones, bari sax, trumpets, trombones, piano, vibes, bass & drumset.
Rehearsals are every Tuesday & Thursday morning from 6:40 – 7:25 am.
Due to the nature of the style and arrangements, seating is limited and membership is open to 7th & 8th grade band students, by audition only. Auditions are scheduled from Monday, Sept.14 to Monday, Sept. 21, before and after school in the Band room. Choose an audition time on the sign-up poster in the Band room. Get audition music ASAP and start practicing (a lot!) It’s an audition…you are trying to earn a place in the group, so be prepared. Results will be posted by Monday, Sept. 21. First rehearsal is Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Because Jazz Band is an honors group, outstanding attendance at practices & performances is expected. Also, every member is expected to learn their music and have it prepared (outside of rehearsals) to the best of their ability. Continued issues with attendance or effort will be cause for dismissal from the group. Each player has a unique job to do, so if you’re not there or don’t know your part, then the whole group suffers. Sounds like a lot of pressure (it is!) but good attendance and preparation makes for a great group and a fun time!
