Any kind of flexible material
1. Cut a piece of cardboard into a square or rectangle shape. I
would suggest that it be at least 6 inches or larger on all four
sides.
2. With scissors, cut small slits in a row along the top and bottom
of the cardboard. Odd amounts of slits (11,13,15, 17,etc.) allow
for a tightly strung cardboard loom to be created.
3. Start the loom with yarn by threading the top left hand corner
and bring the yarn down to its partner at the bottom of the loom.
Next, travel across the back of the cardboard to the next cut and
go up across the front of the board to the top again. Repeat these
steps over and over again until the cardboard loom is strung. There
should be extra yarn that is from the opposite corners (diagonal)
that should be tied off in a double knot. Your loom is ready!!
4. To start weaving, choose your first material and feed it beneath
the first loom string. You will then go above the next string. It
will be a pattern of below, above, below, above until your sting
exits the other side of the loom.
5. For your next material, you will weave it opposite of the string
above. After every ten strings you should push your material up
so it is very tight, this will make a more densely woven mat when
finished.
6. When you have filled the entire board you can take the weaving
off the cardboard by taking the loops of yarn off the cuts in the
top and bottom. I would tie knots at intervals down both sides so
your weaving does not unravel.
