- The current school calendar includes 2 days for weather make-up in May
May 25 and May 29, 2012, are now SCHOOL DAYs for all students K-12.
- Two additional make-up days have been added to the last week of school
June 20 and June 21, 2012, are also SCHOOL DAYs for all students K-12. (June 21 is a half-day early dismissal for the last day of school.)
Kindergarten Registration Information
The Sumner School District offers full-time and part-time kindergarten classes. Part-time students attend school all day on Mondays, Tuesdays and alternating Wednesdays (red kindergarten) OR all day on Thursdays, Fridays and alternating Wednesdays (blue kindergarten).
Some elementary schools offer a tuition-based, full-time program on a space available basis. Full-time kindergarten students attend school every day and have the same school calendar as students in grades 1-5. Students enrolled in full-time kindergarten receive extra instruction time to learn basic skills for first grade.
Full-time Kindergarten Rates
Registration Deposit (applied to June tuition): $100
Full Pay Monthly Tuition: $325
All children enrolling for kindergarten for the coming school year must be five years old by August 31, prior to the start of school. When registering a child for school, families should bring:
- Proof of child’s birth date (birth or hospital certificate, passport);
- Immunization information and child’s health history; and
- Names and phone numbers of parents, physician, and an emergency contact.
Families should contact their neighborhood school for registration information, or download a packet from the District Web site. Completed registration forms should be returned to the neighborhood school.

From the Principal's Desk
Dear Laker Families:
The end of the school year seems just around the corner and yet we’ve got a lot to do between now and the end of school on June 21.
On May 15, we will be holding a Laker Learning Night from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. This is an opportunity for families to learn more about a variety of topics related to the work we do here with students every day. Those topics include:
- How the 4-point grading scale works
- What the 6- trait writing model is all about
- The IXL online math program to help your child with math over the summer
- The 5th grade field trip to Junior Achievement’s Biz Town
- The Collaborative Problem Solving approach to helping students with challenging behaviors
- Additional help students receive through our Title services and the Learning Assistance Program (LAP)
- The District’s PE (PEP) grant
- Kindergarten “Round-up” for 2012-13 kindergarten students
A pasta buffet dinner will be served and childcare will be available at no cost. In addition, the final Book Fair of the year will be open in the library. I hope you and your family will be able to attend this great evening event.
On May 18, we’ll have our annual Walk-A-Thon. This is our spring fund raising event and is always a ton of fun. Information packets have gone home and we’re asking students to collect pledges to support our Parent Teacher Organization. Volunteers are needed for the afternoon and our volunteers always report how fun and easy it is to help with this event.
If you’d like to volunteer or have any questions, please contact me at the school.
Sincerely,
Chuck Eychaner
Principal
