Daffodil Valley Elementary is a recipient of the 2011 Washington Achievement Award.
Daffodil Valley is being recognized for Overall Excellence – Elementary.
The Washington Achievement Awards, sponsored by the Washington State Board of Education and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, celebrates the state’s top-performing schools and recognizes achievement in multiple categories. This highly selective award is based on our school’s performance on the Achievement Index, a comprehensive measurement of Washington schools’ performance over time.
The Washington Achievement Award is given to elementary, middle, high, and comprehensive schools in eight different categories: overall excellence, overall excellence for gifted programs, and special recognition for outstanding achievement in the following subcategories: language arts, math, science, extended graduation rate (high and comprehensive schools only), improvement, and closing the achievement gap.
The selection process for the Washington Achievement Award is very rigorous, and we take great pride in this accomplishment.
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Daffodil Valley Families,
It was my pleasure to accept on behalf of the Daffodil Valley school community the Washington Achievement Award for all-around excellence last Wednesday. It was exciting to see schools that, like us, are successfully working together to provide the best learning experience for our students and families. We have a banner we will proudly display at the front of the school and also a very nice trophy.
We have started our yearly state assessments. Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 are involved with the Measurement of Student Progress (MSP). We provide snacks and extra pencils during this assessment for your child. We know how important it is to have your child well rested and able to concentrate on their work each and every day, but especially during their assessment time. Your child’s MSP results come out in August or September. These are very important for your child. We are testing on Tuesdays and Thursdays and we have provided for a make- up day. We know our students do their best when they are working with their classroom during the assessments.
At Daffodil Valley Elementary we keep the same teacher for two years. It is called looping. For grades kindergarten, 2nd and 4th the students move up to another teacher for 1st, 3rd and 5th grade next year. If you would like to send an e-mail or note explaining what kind of teacher your child would do well with we try to honor those requests. Your child’s current teacher knows your child well and will also help in this process. We need those requests by the end of May.
Grandparents who volunteer in their grandchildren’s school are an amazing experience for everyone! We would like to thank Kim Gaines who faithfully volunteers in the classrooms of her granddaughters, Riley and Hailey.
We will have a limited Summer School at Daffodil July 9-27. We will send out information as soon as we get it. If you would like your child to attend please let your child’s teacher know.
