More About Us
Crestwood Elementary strives to be a school community that is continually
“Growing and Sharing, Learning and Caring Together.” Our mission
is to provide an environment where students will acquire the skills and
attitudes necessary to become successful and productive citizens. Our
staff is dedicated to providing a positive and effective learning environment
for our students.
Crestwood serves students in grades kindergarten through fifth. Special
district programs housed at Crestwood include three sessions of pre-school,
one full-time kindergarten classroom and the Development Learning Center.
Facility
Crestwood first opened its’ doors in the fall of 1993. It is located
in a beautiful wooded setting near Lake Tapps. Currently, fifteen of our
rooms have been established as student classrooms. Every effort has been
made to utilize space to increase the range of learning opportunities
available to students including a library/research center, science lab,
computer lab, resource room, music room, gymnasium, professional development
room, multi-purpose areas and an art room.
Technology
Technology is used throughout the school for teaching, learning and communication.
Crestwood has established both a computer lab and research center. In
addition, a technology package was purchased in 2006 comprised of laptops,
document cameras and LCD projectors for classroom use.
Family Involvement
Crestwood benefits from a high level of parent involvement. Parents participate
in school governance by serving as representatives on many building committees.
We have a large parent volunteer group and an active PTA that help support
building goals for student achievement. Our art docent program is made
possible with the help of trained volunteers. Family events throughout
the school year include several PTA family nights, Curriculum Night, music
programs, PASSport to Success for Parents and our family barbeque.
Communication
A variety of communication mechanisms are used to better connect with
the families we serve. Crestwood distributes monthly newsletters containing
information about up and coming events as well as student learning strategies
and tips for families. Teachers communicate regularly with parents through
classroom newsletters, email, phone calls and parent/teacher conferences.
Families are encouraged to sign up to receive school news through our
district list serve.
Student Activities
Students at Crestwood are involved in a variety of activities including;
Science Club, Science Fair, Chess Club, Dance Club, WASL academy, Reflections
Art program and Student Council. For fifth grade students interested in
athletics, Crestwood offers fall volleyball, winter basketball and spring
track opportunities. Several community organizations meet at Crestwood
including Sumner Parks and Recreation, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownies
and YMCA childcare.
