Summer School
Elementary Summer Intervention
This program is designed to provide academic assistance to students entering grades 1-5. It is an opportunity to bridge the gap between June and September, helping students retain skills learned throughout the school year, as well as providing additional help with those areas your child may find most challenging. Teachers provide engaging activities focused on reading, writing and math in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. We look forward to working with your student as they endeavor to enhance these important academic skills.
Who should attend summer school?
Students who are not meeting standards in reading, writing and/or math should attend the summer school program. District standards for students can be found on the Sumner School District Web site at www.sumner.wednet.edu. This program is available to Sumner School District students only.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedure
Student hours are from 8:30-11:30 am. Please use the front doors of the school for arrival and departure. At the end of class students will be escorted to the front doors and released to their parents or to board the bus. Please be prompt when picking up your child. Students participating in the summer lunch program will be accompanied to the cafeteria door.

Superintendent Dr. Gil Mendoza announced changes in administrative assignments for the coming school year. From the Principal's Desk
It has been a privilege serving the Crestwood school community for the past seven years. I will hold dear the wonderful times I have experienced and the great students, educators and families I have come to know. Effective next school year, I will become principal of Bonney Lake Elementary and Kay Gallo, current principal of McAlder Elementary School, will become principal of Crestwood. Mrs. Gallo and I are working closely to facilitate a smooth transition. As we close out the school year, I hope to see you at one of our many year-end events.
WASL
We are so proud of our 3, 4 and 5 grade students for their outstanding effort with the WASL. They’ve just completed the multiple day assessment and the results should be back about the same time school starts next year.
PTA Volunteers
Just a quick thanks to PTA for their support this school year. This group of hardworking individuals volunteer many, many hours of their time to enhance student learning and provide fun opportunities for families to come together as a school community. We hope all our volunteers will plan to attend our Volunteer Breakfast June 12. This will be our chance to spoil you for a change!
Student Activities
Crestwood is abuzz with activities for students. This month students are involved in Dance Club, Chess Club, Pep Club, Student Council, Conflict Managers, Kindergarten Helpers, Peer Pals, Math Clubs, Track and Talent Show. There is truly something for everyone at Crestwood!
Field Trips
Field trips provide students a real life opportunity to experience topics they study in the classroom. In February, third and fourth grade students traveled to the Washington State History Museum. There are several field trips left this year. Fifth Graders will have a great experience learning about business at Enterprise Village on May 16. Kindergartners will be visiting Point Defiance June 4. Our first and second grade students will experience wildlife up close at Northwest Trek on June 9. We appreciate PTA's willingness to make Crestwood field trips possible by covering the cost of transportation.
Touch-A-Truck
Come explore your favorite things on wheels May 6 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Crestwood. Vehicles will be on display from East Pierce Fire and Rescue, Bonney Lake Police Department, Pierce County Sherrif Department, Bonney Lake Public Works Department, Petersen Brothers, Metro Animal Rescue and many more! This fun and informative event is being sponsored by our Pep Squad with the help of PTA.
Battle of the Books
Mrs. McDonald has been working with other library media specialists around the district to bring another excellent Battle of the Books event to Crestwood May 5 and 6. Students will be competing as reading teams answering questions from selected books. The winning team will advance to the District Battle of the Books event on May 19.
Spirit Day
Along with organizing the Holly Pihl Food Drive and the Crestwood Crisis Supply Fundraiser, our student council has also organized monthly spirit days to help us all show our Crestwood pride. Classrooms compete for the highest participation rate and the winning classroom earns the Spirit Trophy. Our next Spirit Day is May 9. Student council is asking students to choose a friend or two and dress alike as twins.
Again, thank you for your trust and support throughout the years, it has been a wonderful adventure!
