Culinary Arts Club
The Culinary Club participated in the 2008 Boyds Coffee Culinary Invitational in Spokane, Washington on March 7 and 8.  The culinary team consisted of Andrea Fernandez, Erika Lagerstedt, Nick O’Farrell, Joe Leising and Jaime Jones.  The Management team consisted of Megan Waldron, Sharlyssa Layaoen, Jayme Seger, Brianna Emmett and Paule Brown.  Cassie Ludwig was the photographer for the event.  Both teams were led by advisor/instructor Kahale Ahina and mentor Randy Lowell.  The culinary team had to create a three course meal in one hour on only two burners.  These four students earned 2nd in State.  The Management team had to know the restaurant and hospitality business as well.  Separated into two different parts, they competed in a situational case study and a jeopardy game.  Both teams tried their hardest and really showed their potential.

The Bonney Lake Lions Club held their annual “Death by Chocolate” event on March 15.  Our culinary program catered their event at the Cedar Ridge retirement center.  The “Death by Chocolate” theme rounded about 104 people to come.  The dessert auction had numerous sponsors and was a huge hit.  Our culinary group served their competition menu which included Seasonal Raspberry Vinaigrette Salad and Chicken Florentine for the entrée.  They also provided table service.  The whole experience was amazing from beginning to end.  The majority of the proceeds will go to the families in need around our area.  The night ran smoothly and smiles were glued to the participants’ faces.  The culinary program would love to cater events to better the town and the state.  Sponsors or donations are needed to help fund the program so they can attend the 2009 Culinary Invitational in Seattle.

Men’s Basketball Night Out
For those guys interested in playing some basketball, there will be weekly “Men’s Open Gym” on Tuesday nights at the BLHS gym from 7:00-8:30 pm.  This is open to all high school and community men.  Come on out and have some fun.

Basketball News
The men’s basketball team would like to thank all of those community members that came out this year to support the team.  The Panthers finished 3rd in league, made the league and district playoffs for the 2nd consecutive year, won the California Surf ‘N Slam Tourney in December and ended with 15 wins!  Paul McMullen, Zach McMullen and Cash Henningsen were voted to the SPSL All-League Team.  Panther basketball also finished with a 3.2 Team GPA!  A special thanks to those 11 seniors who worked so hard the past three years to put Bonney Lake basketball on the map.  They were a special group that will be missed.

Sincerely, Coach McDaniel

Football Team Meeting
The football team will hold its pre-season informational meeting on Wednesday, April 30 at 2:45 pm in the lower lecture hall.  This meeting is for all incoming 10th, 11th and 12th grade players.  The meeting is mandatory and will end by 3:15 pm.

Family-Friendly Calendar
A new family-friendly calendar with consistent release days for students is now being developed for the 2008-09 school year.  The revised school calendar will be an improvement to the current mix of full-day, half-day, late start and early release days scheduled during the year.  Teachers, staff and students can continue progress toward getting all students to academic standards with a calendar that provides time to improve teaching and learning through professional development opportunities for teachers.

Families and community members are invited to attend one of two open house sessions, provide feedback on school schedule options and learn more about student release time.

Calendar Open House:  April 10

  • Session I:  4:00 – 5:30 pm
    Daffodil Valley Elementary
  • Session II:  6:30 – 8:00 pm
    Bonney Lake High School

Family Access System Outage
A scheduled update to WesPac, our student records system, requires a system-wide outage.  Family Access will be unavailable for several days, beginning April 24, 2008, to complete a software upgrade.  During the outage, you will not be able to access your child’s grades, attendance or lunch accounts online.  The upgrade is expected to be complete by April 26, 2008.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

We’re on the Web
