Summer School

Elementary Summer Intervention
This program is designed to provide academic assistance to students entering grades 1-5. It is an opportunity to bridge the gap between June and September, helping students retain skills learned throughout the school year, as well as providing additional help with those areas your child may find most challenging. Teachers provide engaging activities focused on reading, writing and math in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. We look forward to working with your student as they endeavor to enhance these important academic skills.

Who should attend summer school?
Students who are not meeting standards in reading, writing and/or math should attend the summer school program. District standards for students can be found on the Sumner School District Web site at www.sumner.wednet.edu. This program is available to Sumner School District students only.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedure
Student hours are from 8:30-11:30 am. Please use the front doors of the school for arrival and departure. At the end of class students will be escorted to the front doors and released to their parents or to board the bus. Please be prompt when picking up your child. Students participating in the summer lunch program will be accompanied to the cafeteria door.

Transportation
Limited transportation will be provided. Please indicate on the registration form whether or not your child needs transportation. If you have questions, please contact the Transportation Department at (253) 891-9400.

Sumner School District Administrative Assignments 2008-09
Superintendent Dr. Gil Mendoza announced changes in administrative assignments for the coming school year. These assignments are part of District efforts to reduce expenditures, when and where possible, as budgets and staffing plans are developed. These are the first administrative assignments going to the School Board in preparation for the 2008-09 school year.

Craig Spencer will serve as the Assistant Superintendent (formerly Asst. Superintendent for Administrative Services).

The assistant superintendent position in research and evaluation vacated by resignation will not be filled next year.

Kay Gallo will serve as Interim Principal of Crestwood Elementary. The small school population allows her to also accept an appointment as the planning principal for Elementary #9.

After 12 years at Bonney Lake Elementary, Susie Black will assume the principalship at McAlder Elementary.

Sandy Miller will serve as the new principal of Bonney Lake Elementary.

From the Principal's Desk

During these past twelve years, I have worked alongside talented and inspiring teachers.  Families have been fabulous to work with, always opening their hearts and giving generously of their time to make our school a great place to learn.  The children of Bonney Lake Elementary have inspired all of us to do the best job possible.  Effective with the 2008 - 2009 school year, I will become principal of McAlder Elementary School and Sandy Miller, current principal of Crestwood Elementary School, will become the principal of Bonney Lake Elementary.  Thank you for the memories and for allowing me the opportunity to work with your children over the years!

I am working closely with Mrs. Miller to ensure a smooth transition.  Information on upcoming transition events will be forthcoming.  As we near the end of this school year we have many exciting activities planned; I encourage you to enjoy them all!

Susie Black, Principal
