interest to be a substitute teacher in the Sumner School District.
If you are familiar with our district you will know that we take
great pride in the quality of our students, programs and staff.
It means a great deal to us to know that when we have a “need”
there is a well qualified teacher to serve as a substitute. Please
read carefully the general information outlined below as your application
materials will provide important information for our substitute
placement process.
How to Apply
Complete and submit the following online certificated application
components, applying to be certificated substitute. Once you have
completed your online application, use your Login ID and Password
to update your application.
1. Click on the link “Begin Online Application” and
follow the directions.
2. The following materials must be submitted to Human Resources.
You will also be asked to complete I-9 and W-4 forms.
- Verification of Identification: Driver’s license with
photo or the Department of Licensing “Identicard”
for non-drivers or a passport.
- Employment Eligibility Documents – Social Security Card
or a receipt of application for a Social Security Card will be
necessary to disclose upon hiring for federal income tax, state
retirement and internal record keeping purposes.
- Original Washington State Teaching Certificate – Substitute:
Your certificate will be registered in our district.
- Emergency Substitute: Interview at Human Resources and then
we will help you with the procedures and requirements to obtain
the emergency substitute certificate for the State of Washington.
- Washington State Patrol/FBI Fingerprinting Verification: If
you have previously had fingerprinting done through WSP/FBI through
another district, please bring verification with you. If fingerprinting
is needed, we will give you the required forms. Certificated substitute
employment is on a conditional basis pending the successful completion
of an FBI and Washington State Patrol fingerprint background check
at the employee’s expense, as well as a current written
disclosure of specified criminal convictions and civil or disciplinary
board findings.

All submitted documents are scanned into your online application.
It is preferable to submit your documents on regular 20 pound paper.
