Welcome to Sumner School District’s Online Application for Certificated Positions.

Thank you for your interest in certificated positions in the Sumner School District. Staff interested in pursuing curricular or instructional leadership will find a variety of challenging and rewarding choices. Sumner School District provides direct and structural support to 1st, 2nd and 3rd year teachers obtaining their Professional Certification. Our full-time professional development administrator is available to assist with your individualized professional growth plan.

Please read carefully the general information outlined below. Your application materials will provide important information in the selection process.

How to Apply
Complete and submit the following online certificated application components. For guaranteed consideration, materials must be submitted to the Human Resources Department no later than the closing date noted on the position announcement.

• Resume and letter of interest for the specific vacant position(s). Please refer to position title and posting number.
• Copy of current teaching certificate or permit – Washington State Teaching Certificate required.
• College Placement File. Under special circumstances wherein a placement file is not available, Human Resources may, with prior approval, accept comparable materials.
• Transcripts for all college courses. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable until a position is offered.
• Two completed Sumner School District Professional Reference Forms are required. To ensure that references are confidential, they should be mailed directly by the referent or submitted in a sealed, signed envelope mailed directly to the Human Resources Department. Reference forms should be completed by:

1. Your present and immediate past supervisors.
2. If a student or recent graduate, your supervisory student teacher or a professor with whom you studied.

Interview Process
The Sumner School District believes that no single decision making process in education has greater potential impact on students and programs than the selection of staff. Given the importance of staffing decisions, the district’s selection process utilizes a broad-based team hiring approach. The selection team composed of staff, administrators, parents and students, screens, interviews and recommends a final applicant to the Board of Directors for appointment. Candidates can expect to participate in a rigorous selection process which may include an individual interview, simulations, writing exercises and teaching skills demonstrations.

Any Offer of Employment made to you will be conditional until you have provided official transcripts verifying your academic background, verified your certification status, and passed a background check pursuant to Chapter 43.43 RCW and Chapter 28A.410 RCW.
