The Sumner School Board of Directors governs the Sumner School District. The board's five members are elected from five separate areas within the district to four-year terms.

Superintendent Gil Mendoza

Dr. Mendoza received his Bachelors degree in Psychology and teaching credentials from Gonzaga University in 1976, a Masters degree in Vocational/Special Needs Leadership Education from the University of Washington in 1987, and his Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Seattle University in 1994. He served as Executive Director of Career & Technical Education, Grants Management and Alternative Education for the Tacoma School District. During his 12 years in Tacoma, he provided leadership to building principals and led numerous district departments, including Curriculum & Instruction, Student Services, Special Education, Career & Technical Education, Guidance, Health Services, and Enrollment Services and also worked in the Research and Evaluation Department.
