The Roll of Honor recognizes accomplishments, achievements, awards and other notable activities of and by students, staff and educators. At each meeting, President Sherm Voiles presents a roster of honorees. This month the School Board recognizes educators and staff honored for Professional Achievement at the 2011 Opening Day Convocation.

The Roll of Honor recognizes accomplishments, achievements, awards and other notable activities of and by students and educators.
On behalf of the Sumner School Board of Directors, President Richard Hendricks acknowledged community volunteers and students participating in the 2012 District Science Fair and the District At Show.
175 students were awarded ribbons in the combined science fair and art show.
All of the students’ names and awards are posted on the District Web site and each student received a certificate of participation. |

Holiday Giving Around the District
While requests for support and assistance in our community are still increasing, the spirit of generosity continues throughout our schools. Students, staff and families throughout the Sumner School District contributed to local food banks, senior centers and the Sumner Family Center to help assist neighbors in need during this holiday season, providing holiday baskets, gifts and clothing to numerous children and families.
Sumner Family Center coordinated with schools throughout the District, other community organizations and businesses to fulfill the holiday wish lists of over 1,321 kids.
Bonney Lake Elementary donated 1,883 food items to the Bonney Lake Food Bank for their annual food drive.
Bonney Lake High School
collected $4000 in donations and gifts and granted Winter Wishes to over 500 students. 14,784 items were contributed to the annual High School Food Bowl and donated Bonney Lake Food Bank.
Crestwood Elementary
donated 1,700 food items to the Bonney Lake Food Bank and 15 families were given boxes of gifts.
Daffodil Valley Elementary
along with local businesses
donated holiday baskets to 70 Daffodil families and clothes, shoes, coats and gifts to over 64 Daffodil families. |
Donald Eismann Elementary
donated over 2,100 cans of food to the Bonney Lake Food Bank.
Emerald Hills Elementary
donated 1,085 pounds of food to the Bonney Lake Food Bank and gave holiday baskets to 57 Emerald Hills children.
Liberty Ridge Elementary
along with local businesses, staff donated food, gifts, provided holiday dinners and other items to 180 Liberty Ridge students and 70 families.
Lakeridge Middle School
donated 1,263 pounds of food to the Bonney Lake Food Bank helped 17 families with holiday items and donated $640 towards propane for a family.
Maple Lawn Elementary
donated
over 3,700 items to the Emmanuel Food Pantry at St. Andrew’s which fed over 300 families. |
Mountain View Middle School
donated over 3,100 food items to the Bonney Lake Food Bank and provided 45 families with meal baskets and helped provide gifts for over 40 students and their families.
Sumner High School
donated 25,800 items to Sumner Food Bank as part of their annual High School Food Bowl. Students served over 760 at the annual Community Dinner and hundreds of toys were given out to children by Santa.
Sumner Middle School
donated 100 turkeys for their annual Great Turkey Giveaway holiday baskets to 35 families and gave over 4,800 food items to the Sumner Food Bank.
Victor Falls Elementary
and the PTO donated
clothing, gifts a holiday meal for 34 kids and PTO donated and over 700 pounds of food to the Bonney Lake Food Bank.
Central Office
donated coats and food to the Sumner and Bonney Lake food banks. |

Professional Distinction:
Tricia Hukee was invited to work with OSPI on MSP development and state Math Standards.
Nancy Lenihan was invited to work with OSPI on Social Studies curriculum alignment and Grades 3-8 Math Standards.
John Norlin was named Activities Coordinator of the Year by Washington Association of Student Councils.
Chuck Eychaner was elected president of Pierce Region principals and is a Board Member of the Elementary School Principals Association of Washington.
Steve Fulkerson was elected to the state Board of Directors for the Association of Washington Middle Level Principals.
Linda Masteller, Steve Fulkerson and Laurie Dent were selected to pilot the National Board Certification for Principals, the first national certification program focused on accomplished principals.
Mountain View Middle School named as a 2010 School of Distinction - top 5% of highest improving schools in the state (just one 22 middle schools statewide to earn this recognition) by the Center for Educational Effectiveness and the WA state chapter of Phi Delta Kappa
Transportation Department earned a rating of Excellent on the Washington State Patrol School Bus Fleet Inspection with 98.6% passing score.
Tricia Littlefield named Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher of the Year.
