| Tech Prep - Direct
Credit - Dual Credit
Tech Prep Direct Credit allows students to earn both high school
and community/technical college credit for completing high school
courses. For earning a grade of "B" (3.0) or higher in
select high school classes, students can earn community/technical
college credits. To qualify, students must meet specific requirements
established by the college and high school instructors. College
credits are free. Credits are posted to transcripts during the summer following
the school year in which they were earned. Credits appear on the
transcript just as credits earned on the community/technical college
campus.
Through Pierce County Careers Connection (PC3) and the South King
County Tech Prep Consortium (SKCTP), Sumner School District students
can earn credits from Bates Technical College, Clover Park Technical
College, Green River Community College, Highline Community College,
Pierce College, Renton Technical College, or Tacoma Community College.
Current courses include: Accounting/Bookkeeping, Applied Anatomy
& Physiology, Architectural CAD I, Architectural Drafting Fundamentals,
Automotive Technology, Basic Child Care Provider, Business, Communication
Technologies, Construction, Drafting Technology, Early Childhood
Education, Fundamentals of IT, Fundamentals of Web Design, Introduction
to Programming, Marketing Fundamentals, Office Applications, and
Welding. See articulation matrix on back for specifics.

Sumner Students Earn College Credit While Still in High
School
Sumner School District students earned community/technical college
credits, representing approximately $176,025 in tuition costs, last
year while still in high school through the Pierce County Careers
Connection, the South King County Tech Prep Consortium, and Seattle
Central Community College. Two hundred students earned these credits
using the dual credit/direct transcription process. Students receive
college credit and a college transcript by completing high school
courses that have articulation agreements in place with the community
college. Requirements include meeting course competencies and earning
grades of B (3.0) or better. Students received credit for a wide
range of high school courses such as Accounting, Retail Management,
American Sign Language, Electronics, and Careers in Education. These
credits were earned through Bates Technical College, Clover Park
Technical College, Green River Community College, Highline Community
College, Pierce College, Renton Technical College, Seattle Central
Community College, and Tacoma Community College. Already having
a transcript with college credit is excellent motivation to encourage
students to continue their education at a post-secondary institution.
