| What is a Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee?
The primary purpose of career & technical education advisory
committees is to promote collaboration between specific educational
programs and business, industry and labor in preparing individuals
to enter and succeed in their chosen career. Advisory committees
are an effective means for making the educational delivery system
respond to the needs of the changing labor market.
Advisory committees are made up of volunteers who give of their
time, talent, and expertise to help improve and update career and
technical programs. Members are volunteers who share an expert working
knowledge of the job tasks and competencies required for specific
occupations. Members should represent a balance of employees and
management.
Career & technical education advisory committees have three
major roles. They advise the administration, assist program staff,
and provide support and advocacy for quality education and training.
Working cooperatively with the program administrator and instructors,
advisory committees can significantly help strengthen and improve
the programs they serve. Authority does not include administrative
or faculty control of the programs.
Because committee members have expert knowledge in the program
area their advice is taken seriously by instructors and administrators.
